Newark and Sherwood District Council chooses EasyRoute to optimise new recycling collection rounds

Newark and Sherwood District Council has selected software from Routeware, a leading supplier of digital waste and recycling solutions to local government, to help them manage their waste and recycling collection services.

Using EasyRoute, the company’s route optimisation software, Newark and Sherwood will be able to design waste and recycling rounds that increase the efficiency of their services and make better use of their resources.

The council joins a customer community of over 100 local authorities already using the software.

Last year Newark and Sherwood hit its highest ever recycling rate, but as the council strives to increase their recycling rate further, later this year they will be introducing kerbside glass recycling across the district.

The new free wheeled bin kerbside glass recycling service will mean that across the district, residents will be able to recycle their glass bottles and jars from their kerbsides using a smaller 140 litre wheelie bin. Once collected they will be sent off to be recycled, avoiding them going for incineration, and increasing the district’s recycling rate.

The waste and recycling team will use the software to create collection rounds and round maps for the crews and these will also be used to assist bin deliveries.

Designed specifically for waste collection, EasyRoute is the most widely used municipal route optimisation software in the UK. The software enables users to model various operational service scenarios, optimise resource requirements, and produce rounds that reduce the risk of public disruption.

Thomas Moffat, UK Sales Director for Routeware said: “We are really pleased to be working with Newark and Sherwood to help them launch their new recycling service. We look forward to helping their team continue to deliver efficient and effective waste and recycling services to their communities.”
