Spotlight: Karina Lee, Sales Enablement and Events Manager

From digital marketing to community engagement, Karina Lee has done it all.

She takes great pride in her work as the Sales Enablement and Events Manager for Routeware and its portfolio of companies, including ReCollect, EasyRoute, Core, Webaspx, ASI and RouteOptix.

Karina says working on a team that helps municipalities and organizations work toward and reach their sustainability goals is among the most exciting and rewarding parts of her job.

“Every day is different and challenging,” she says.

Outside of work, Karina says she and her family recycles everything from plastics, paper and styrofoam, to batteries, electronics and food scraps.

“If there aren’t appropriate bins to recycle when we’re out, we would bring it home to recycle,” she says. “Although our lives aren’t zero waste, we do try to limit our output as much as possible.”

Karina brings that same passion for the planet to her work, too, collaborating with others on the Routeware and ReCollect teams, ensuring customers have all they need to meet their sustainability goals.

“For me, an average day is making sure we stay on schedule with events and all new sales collateral is socialized, which is exciting in itself.”

Among her many duties, Karina organizes and manages about 15 conferences and tradeshows each year for ReCollect. “I love helping the shows come together and watching them flourish,” she says.

Throughout the last few years, COVID-19 has presented many challenges, including some procedural changes for tradeshows. Karina says the ReCollect and Routeware teams have had to carefully study contracts for cancellation clauses and the like, in addition to researching and communicating regional and state requirements to ensure all team members comply.

But seeing everything come together makes it all worth it. “My favorite part is when the event organizer accepts our abstracts and provides our sales team an opportunity to share our thought leadership with the solid waste and recycling industry,” Karina says.

The opportunity to engage with customers and present solutions at events is gratifying and exciting for the whole team, Karina says.

“I look forward to many successful events in 2022!”

Among the shows ReCollect will attend this year are WasteExpo, WasteCon, and the Resource Recycling Conference:

WasteExpo | May 9-12 | Las Vegas, Nevada
The annual WasteExpo will focus on technology and innovation with promises of unveiling new ideas in operations, fleet safety, landfill and more.

The flagship event organized by Waste360 provides four days of educational sessions (CEUs) and ample opportunity to stay abreast of the latest developments and products in the solid waste industry.

Some 14,000 attend the expo each year, with more than 600 exhibitors and over 60 educational sessions.

Resource Recycling Conference | August 15-17 | Austin, Texas
In its second decade, the Resource Recycling Conference, a partnership between the National Recycling Coalition and The Recycling Partnership, is billed as a must-attend event for government officials, policy leaders and CEOs.

This year’s educational lineup includes trends in materials processing, diversion-boosting tactics, talking points for interacting with legislators and market analysis.

WasteCon | December 5-8 | San Diego, California
Likely the largest convergence of solid waste professionals on the continent, WasteCon will bring four days of peer-to-peer networking and education sessions (CEUs) — plus ample opportunities for fun, according to SWANA (Solid Waste Association of North America), the not-for-profit which organizes the annual event.

SWANA serves more than 10,000 members in the public and private sectors whose goal is to move the dial from solid waste management to resource management through education, advocacy and research.
